This is a new blog series where we will feature a different astrology sign every month along with specific health recommendations for that particular sign. This month is dedicated to the Leos of the Zodiac!
This is the time for all Leos (July 23 – August 22) to bask in the warmth of the summer Sun, their ruling planet. They are known for their bravery, big hearts, and regal presence. Lions require intense physical activity combined with plenty of rest for their overall well-being. Their bodies typically crave dancing more than any other Sun Sign. The dance classes at Rancho La Puerta are perfect for Lions. African dance, where the music of a Lion’s native homeland puts them into a rhythmic trance, is highly recommended.
For any Leo, saunas are an excellent way to detoxify. Being a Fire sign, the more they raise their body temperature, the better. Sweating is an excellent way to remove toxins. The body part associated with Leos is the heart. It is important to tax the heart, since like any muscle, it will not get stronger unless it is pushed. Intense yoga styles like Ashtanga will get the blood pumping and give Leos a nice lean look. Lions are never heavy in the wild, and Leos tend to have the higher metabolisms than other Zodiac signs.
As for food, the suggestions of Rancho La Puerta’s James Beard Award-winning guest chef, Raghavan Iyer (www.raghavaniyer.com) would be useful for all Leos to put into practice. Raghavan knows that spices are incredibly helpful in making food more interesting. Being from India, and coming from the land of spices, Raghavan advises,
Spices have been tools of flavor for thousands of years. Their healing powers are countless. Don’t be afraid to sprinkle a few to perk up your daily fare. You’ll be amazed at how satisfying they are, making you use less salt, and being satiated with a smaller portion. Live a little!
As a nice counter balance to all the heat and fire that Leos crave, try spending some time this summer plunging into the ocean, a lake or a swimming pool. And next time you are at Rancho La Puerta, make sure you experience Watsu®. This is a healing practice where your body is held in a heated pool, and moved above and below the water to release tension and trauma. And if you happen to be there when Erin O’Rourke is the Watsu® practitioner for that week, you lucky Lions will get to experience this amazing work with another magnificent Leo.
