Massage was described by Hippocrates (circa 400 BCE) as an important adjunct to healing. Medical studies continue to emphasize the importance of this therapy to good health. Massage promotes rapid recovery from workouts with less soreness, and delivers some of the benefits of exercise. It tones muscles, increases circulation, relieves congestion that interferes with nutrition to tissues, stimulates capillaries, releases endorphins and eases tension.

To aid your body's own healing mechanisms.
Holistic therapy nurtures and treats every aspect of a person: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. This massage treatment induces relaxation, clears negative energy, balances the chakras and restores overall energy.

HEALING THERAPY (Trigger-point Techniques)

This focused approach clears pain and releases chronic patterns of imbalance and tension in the body. Each treatment is customized to address specific problem areas using a variety of techniques such as trigger-point, myofascial release, neuromuscular release, and muscle-energy techniques. The relaxation that follows is profound and enduring. Any temporary discomfort triggered by working on long-locked-up tissues is a small price to pay for unprecedented freedom from pain or restricted movement. (Note: this treatment is not necessarily a full body massage.)

HOT RIVERSTONE MASSAGE
Hot riverstone massage is a recent addition to our menu of services. Smooth, glassy stones are heated in water enhanced with essential oils. Massage therapists uses the stones as an extension of their hands, allowing them to work at deeper levels with lingering heat. Guests report soothing warmth, comfort and relaxation. Aches and pains are diminished, replaced by a feeling of physical well-being.

RELAXATION MASSAGE
Our time-honored classic Swedish-style massage nurtures and relaxes the whole body. Your therapist can enhance the experience using aromatic oils, or you can choose an unscented massage crème or lotion.

RANCHO LA PUERTA IN-ROOM MASSAGE
We come to you! A special mixture of aromatic oils and peaceful massage techniques helps the therapist relax muscles, quiet nerves, and increase circulation, evoking feelings of relaxation, tranquility and balance. Both senses of smell and touch are stimulated. Available for guests in our larger casitas: Jr. Villas, Villa Studios, and Villa Suites only.

SPORTS MASSAGE
This dynamic combination of friction and compression alleviates muscle tension, promotes recovery, and increases flexibility to aid in the prevention of injuries.
Fifty minutes -- $85 (Not recommended for those unaccustomed to deep-tissue massage.)

THAI MASSAGE
Our traditional Thai massage has its roots in yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhist spiritual practice. It is a form of Yoga therapy that combines rhythmic massage, acupressure, gentle twisting and meditation. Through stretching and opening the body, Thai massage increases joint mobility and flexibility, enhancing range of motion. Muscular tension is slowly released, and blood and energy flow freely, which aids the body’s natural detoxification process and boosts its immune response. Positive effects are both physical and psychological, resulting in a deep state of relaxation, centeredness and overall well being.

THERAPEUTIC DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
This deeper, more vigorous massage can either address the whole body or give more attention to specific areas of need. The choice is yours: by communicating with your therapist you can have your therapist focus where you need it most. Using a greater range of techniques and more “tools” (such as forearms and elbows), your therapist can work deeper to relieve chronic passive tension.

HYDROTHERAPY MASSAGE
Feel weightless in a rushing stream of underwater jets as our skilled therapist soothes tense muscles and stimulates circulation. We add a blend of pure seaweed and aromatic essences to the water. Seventy-five variable-pressure hydrotherapy jets ease you into a state of deep relaxation. This treatment culminates in a brisk massage with a hydrating lotion.

Body treatments, now used at spas worldwide, date back to 1940 at Rancho La Puerta. Edmond Szekely, anxious to find an aid for the aches and muscle spasms that afflicted guests unaccustomed to exercise, adapted a favorite technique of Father Sebastian Kneipp, the "father of hydrotherapy." Herbal and aromatherapy "wraps" help reduce muscle spasms, decrease lactic acid build-up, intensify circulation, and relax overly tense muscles. Body and mind ease into the deepest form of relaxation. (Wraps not recommended if you are pregnant.)

SOIN VELOURS
A refurbishing algo or citro-essence body polish.
Your technician will choose either a body polish that utilizes a refining, re-mineralizing marine complex, or a hydrating, repairing plant-and-flower formula. Following the "strip away of dead leaves" (the literal meaning of "exfoliate"), your new contours will be treated to a marvelous body massage with a rebirthing, silky blend of botanical oils and lotions.

A deep hydrating body treatment.
This provides deep hydration, firming and reconditioning of the body. A warm algae body mask fragranced with flower essences replenishes skin tissue and promotes silky smooth contours. A wonderful stress reliever for the mind, body and spirit.

RANCHO LA PUERTA HERBAL WRAP
Steaming hot linens, boiled with traditional Native American herbs, are wrapped around the body. A blanket with plastic overlay captures and holds the heat. A soothing, cold compress applied to the forehead is a wonderful inducement to dozing.

AROMATHERAPY WRAP
This is the same process as Rancho La Puerta's herbal wrap except the hot linens are steeped in fragrant herbal and floral essential oils.

SEAWEED WRAP
A purifying, cleansing treatment similar to our renowned herbal wrap, except that seaweed is the principal element of the diffusion. The wrap helps improve circulation and the efficient functioning of skin cells.

SPRING RAIN SHOWER WITH SEAWEED BODY MASK
A detoxifying seaweed thermal wrap re-hydrates and re-mineralizes. It is followed by a gentle shower with special jets of water at a comfortable temperature designed to enhance relaxation and improve circulation. Full-body moisturizing completes the treatment.

LOOFAH SALT GLOW
Promotes baby-soft skin. A brisk massage with a salt, oil, honey, almond, and oatmeal paste is applied to the entire body (except the face), thoroughly cleansing the pores. Dead layers of skin cells disappear and circulation is stimulated.

SCALP TREATMENT
This pleasurable treatment enhances circulation to scalp and hair follicles, and provides needed oxygen and nutrients to the roots to improve hair's texture, shine and suppleness. A neck and shoulder massage follows to relax tense muscles. Treatment concludes with a mini-facial.

HAPPY HANDS AND FEET
You'll derive total relaxation from a combination of reflexology and hand massage. A warm paraffin dip leaves hands and feet feeling satiny smooth and soft.

The soles of your feet have a soul! Modern reflexology stimulates all the glands and organs of the body through energy flow and release points located in the feet. An uplifting experience! Thirty minutes -- $45

An invigorated complexion looks and feels fresher and younger. Our facial regimen reduces the appearance of wrinkles by promoting the exfoliation of the skin's outer layers and exposing smoother skin underneath. Facials revitalize and regenerate skin, while deep cleansing removes impurities. Body and spirit relax, promoting wonderful peace of mind. When scheduling your day, please note that facial treatments should not be followed immediately by unprotected sun exposure (i.e. sunbathing). Your beautician will apply a SPF-25 lotion after your service.

LE GRANDE CLASSIQUE
A deep pore cleansing and restoring facial.
This is the most complete and personalized deep pore cleansing you'll ever experience. The treatment uses anti-inflammatory plant extracts that will leave your skin refreshed and dewy, without unsightly marks.
