Love's Four Journeys | Linda Carroll

Relationships are a series of stages through which we travel -- from romantic bliss to rude awakening to disillusionment and sometimes despair -- until, finally and ideally, we reach a resting place where love has grown deeper, richer and more settled. Each of the journeys we'll explore is based on a synthesis of the current literature on marriage, intimacy, biology and poetry through the ages.

Linda Carroll Barraud, M.S., psychotherapist and writer, has worked extensively with couples since 1980 in her private practice in Oregon, throughout the US, and New Zealand. She is also a Masters Pairs teacher, a licensed Imago therapist, and teaches courses in “Hot Monogamy.” She and her husband have educated thousands of couples and singles with a 100-hour course blended from years of training in several modalities. She is presently completing a book about the cycles of relationships.

How to Create a Sleep Sanctuary for Lovers and Others | Robert deStefano

For many couples mired in long workdays and hectic schedules, the time spent in bed sleeping together may represent the bulk of the time that they actually spend together. Sleep guru to the spas, Robert deStefano brings blissful relief to frustrated, sleep-deprived partners in this four-session workshop. “When one partner's sleep not in harmony with the other’s, the romantic, spiritual, energetic and practical glue of the relationship is compromised,” he says.

Research by the National Sleep Foundation supports de Stefano’s theory, finding that once disturbed by a partner's sleep problems, the other partner experiences an average loss of 49 minutes of sleep a night or 300 hours a year. In the same study, more than 25 percent of adults polled said that they have sex less often or have lost total interest in it because they are too sleepy. DeStefano teaches couples how to successfully transition from the chaos of the day to a "state of synergistic sleep readiness." You will learn how to return back to each other every night by creating a private sleep sanctuary far removed from work, bills, even kids. “After the demands of the day, leaving the world behind and entering a blissful, stress-free state of consciousness together is the best way for lovers to cultivate a night of sleeping together and/or ‘sleeping together’."

Couples and those interested individuals representing the couple will be immersed into an interactive practice of intention, know-how, tools and bliss:

o Introduction: “Sixth grade science and something that you did not know about massage”

o Session Two: “Zen & The Art of Better Sleep™”

o Session Three: “Ending the Sleep-Negative Narrative”

o Session Four: “The Sweet, Sleep Seduction™”

A 20-year career as an award-winning commercial director left Robert deStefano with chronic insomnia and severe health issues. In late 2000, motivated by an intention to recapture his sleep and his health, he sold his San Francisco advertising agency and embarked on a personal journey of sleep wellness education that spanned exotic jungle yoga retreats, yogi master meditation classes, and academic education on brain waves and state change. Along the way he formed Sleep Garden, producing a line of audio and video sleep aids, including the clinically tested and critically acclaimed gold standard of sleep music, ‘zMusic, The Sound Way to Sleep™’. His workshops and sleep aid products have been featured in USA Today, Good Morning America, Spa Business International, Yoga Journal, Body & Soul Magazine, Spa Magazine, LA Times, and Women’s Health.
