Whether you pick up a guitar in our Guest Lounge, sit down at the piano, decide to join a sand volleyball game, or put binoculars around your neck and set off in search of a lazuli bunting…the Ranch activities don’t center entirely around fitness classes! These additional activities provide a relaxing getaway—and our golf option is literally a getaway: We transport you to a nearby championship course in the U.S..
We provide the binoculars. The birds provide the show! The Ranch is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with 160 species seen on what might you call our property’s “life list.” Some of the more noted or unusual (at least for this area) species seen at the Ranch include Zone-tail Hawk, Downy Woodpecker. Varied Thrush, Rose-Breasted Grosbeak, Hepatic Tanager, Brown Thrasher (the first sighting ever in Baja California occurred here from November 2008 to May 2009. Some common Ranch birds that are not widespread in North America include California Thrasher, Nuttall’s Woodpecker, Oak Titmouse, Wrentit, and Hutton’s Vireo.

Rancho La Puerta provides guests the opportunity to play golf on the rolling greens of the Steele Canyon Golf Club
in Jamul, California, for an extra fee.
Your 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. golf day includes an 18-hole round, cart rental, clubs rental (if necessary), box lunch and transportation to and from the Ranch. (The fee is reduced to $120 if you bring your own clubs, but why bother with extra airline baggage? Steele Canyon’s rental sets are top-flight).
Group or individual lessons can be arranged with the pros at Steele Canyon for an additional fee. Ask one of our reservation specialists for more details of our golf day. The golf option is available Thursdays, weather (and guest interest) permitting.
Dig, set, serve and spike during an open volleyball game with one of our fitness staff members, who will include a brief warm-up and introduction to beginning and advanced techniques of the sport. Does the thought of jumping and sliding make your knees hurt already? Try our sand court – it’s easier on the joints and more forgiving for those hard landings.
