Joanne Sullivan enjoyed solving puzzles since she was a child, but she avoided crosswords thinking they would be filled with arcane information. But when a friend encouraged her to attempt one she quickly became an avid solver, then a crossword constructor. In 2010 her first published puzzle appeared in The New York Times, the most celebrated venue for crossword puzzles. Crossword editor Will Shortz honored her debut puzzle by including it in his book “Will Shortz Picks His Favorite Puzzles: 101 of the Top Crosswords from The New York Times.” Joanne’s puzzles now appear in other books including “100 Years, 100 Crosswords: Celebrating the Crossword’s Centennial.”
