Desire uses the world of plant biology as a starting point to examine desire, as it exists in its most elemental state. The company will perform three excerpts from this evening-length work entitled Protection, Tumbleweed and The Back of Beauty. Donna Sternberg & Dancers is a non-profit interdisciplinary dance company founded in 1985 that has premiered over 80 works, including eight full evening-length performances. Discovery is our passion. We express ourselves through movement using our bodies, space, and music as our tools. Science is our subject matter. The company performs in site-specific locations such as parks, galleries, libraries and on the beach as well as in traditional theaters. DS&D has performed throughout California, and is the resident guest artist at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. It has been featured in print such as Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit, Los Angeles Times, radio and television (PBS, City TV). The company has received funding from state and local governmental agencies, businesses and foundations. Donna Sternberg, Artistic Director, has premiered works throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. She was awarded a Choreography Fellowship from the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Dept. in 2013 and was chosen to participate in the first artist/scientist residency at Djerassi in July 2014. Her work has been commissioned by festivals, dance companies, schools and institutions such as the California Science Center.
