When I was younger I constantly looked outside of myself for validation of what I should do with my life. I didn’t know what my purpose was, and because of that I was heavily influenced by others. I never looked within myself to discover what it was that I really wanted, and as a result I felt emptiness and confusion surrounding everything I did. I was constantly striving, but I had no feelings of satisfaction.
Maybe this was all part of my journey, but with age and these experiences I began to look within to find my life’s purpose. Since then, I’ve woken up nearly every day with intense motivation to accomplish my goals. Feeling secure in my purpose has spilled over in nearly everything I do in life, including my health and relationships.
So Mister Rogers, someone I looked up to as a little girl, had it right all along. It’s ironic that I came across this quote so much later in life and it’s only now that it makes sense. But that is life, isn’t it? The teacher will appear when the student is ready.
