Wise Words #23

joseph campbell

How many times in your life have you wished you were someone else?  Someone who had more money, or better opportunities or, perhaps, better looks?  None of us are immune to these kinds of feelings.

There are periods in our lives when we may not embrace who we are.  One that comes to mind is that very awkward period called adolescence.  I remember never feeling up to par - like I was always a step behind.  Those were hard years but I’m glad I experienced them because they made me who I am today. Looking back, I realize that the challenges I faced taught me important lessons and made me a stronger person.

It has taken some time, but I now try to completely accept myself and my individuality. Unlike my adolescent self, I’ve become better at embracing my own unique qualities. The end result is that I am much more grateful for each moment and view my unique journey as a privilege.

It’s a human trait to crave acknowledgement.  However this quote by Aesop reminds me that even if we don’t receive a thank you, that doesn’t mean our giving or nice deed goes unnoticed or is not appreciated.  Of course, being … Continue reading

I love this quote.  Call me an optimist, but I’ve found that things tend to work out for the best if you believe they will.  I’m always hopeful that things will work out!  Even in the deepest of despair, I … Continue reading

What does it mean to live?  I think that the definition is different for everyone.  For one person it may mean hiking Patagonia, to another, spending the day gardening.  To each his own.  But I think the main message to … Continue reading

This quote opened up an array of questions for me.  Is it natural for humans to be intently focused on survival and getting what we need to survive?  Or getting what we want?  And is “getting” things what truly makes … Continue reading

abundance

Wise Words #14

Sometimes I wonder if we are programmed to always look for scarcity in our lives.  In response to this observation, for the past year, I’ve been trying to focus on abundance.  The more I think about abundance, the more I … Continue reading
