Intuitive Ink Painting

Week of February 16, 2019

Intuitive Ink Painting is a fun and free process in which we let go and allow ourselves to make art through intuition, play, and imagination.  Each day I will introduce the materials with a brief demonstration of simple technique, including color blending and brushwork, and invite students to begin (or add to works made in previous days). We will make greeting cards, mini travel journals or small paintings using brush markers filled with vibrantly colored inks. I will offer additional mixed media tools (water-based paint, pens, papers, adhesive) for those who want to explore further.

Intuitive Ink Painting is accessible to everyone, from beginners to accomplished artists. It’s fun, relaxing, and no previous art experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided for participants.

Guests are welcome to come for one session, or all five. We’ll be using high-quality art supplies in luscious colors, and there will be no pressure or critique. Come to be inspired, express yourself, try new ways of recording your feelings and the events of your life; create a gift or something to help you “take the Ranch home.”

Karen Boren Gerstenberger, Artist
Karen Gerstenberger is an artist who lives and creates by the shores of Puget Sound, Washington, using acrylic paint and mixed media. Her work is held in collections around North America, in Europe and South Africa, and is shown in her gallery in Kingston, Washington. She has a deep reverence for nature and its healing potential in our lives. A dedicated walker, she knows personally the solace, inspiration, freedom, and joy that strolling in nature provides because it helped to release her from 30 years of “artist’s block.” She co-facilitates the Stroll for Well-Being Program at the beautiful Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, Washington, which continually inspires her.

In her memoir, Because of Katie, Karen tells the true story of her journey with her daughter and family through the world of pediatric cancer. She created and taught WORD SOUP© (a writer’s workshop). Karen founded & is President of Katie’s Comforters Guild and The Katie Gerstenberger Endowment for Cancer Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. Her professional experience includes painting, writing, health-care advocacy, public speaking and (long ago) sales & finance. She has served as a volunteer in public schools, pastoral caregiving, medical education and on the board of the Bainbridge Island public library. Hobbies include reading, Pilates, beachcombing, crafts, travel (especially exploring on foot), and sampling local culture wherever she travels.
